Flying on United Airlines is yet again an experience to think about. Boarding the plane was okay as the boarding process was smooth and without the hitch that sometimes you might expect to experience. Entering the plane greeted by a flight attendant who looked at me and wasn't ready to say anything but then as our eyes met she said welcome aboard welcome aboard. I took my seat 28a by the window. Opened my seat tray to find out only that it was just dirty. No one has wiped them them off. It is obvious that he was really dirty and unpleasant to put a drink or anything on that tray. That kind of put me off and set the mood for the entire flight. The service was just okay nothing out of the ordinary. Accept the fact that I asked for hot tea. I was served the tea but with no beverage napkin. The passenger next to me order the Coke or some sort of a soft drink and got a beverage napkin. Entertainment it's hard to say if there is anything because they ask you to have downloaded the United Mobile app in order to access some entertainment features. Seats had small screens that were blasting some ads and how to use DirecTV or whatever. Meals on this 2-hour flight to Denver from San Francisco California for purchase of course . the seat itself was rather comfortable and reclined just okay. I also noticed that some of the flight attendants had their hair tied up and some didn't. So serving Beverages and food with your hair like that? Is that acceptable?? I wish service at United which is an airline I've been using for many many years one day and I hope one day would become truly better.
Travelling on this flight from London Heathrow to San Francisco, CA for about 10 hours and wanted to share my observations during this flight that made me an important impression and compelled me to share this review. I want to start with the food presentation which is hard to describe. I am not even talking about the food portions which are so very minimal, but the overall presentation. You are given a small, I mean a small tray that cannot fit all food containers. For example, for dessert they gave an ice cream that the flight attendant placed on top of the hot meal container. When the tray is placed on the seat tray it slides off as the plane vibrates or during even the slightest turbulence. The bread roll was ice cold along with the butter. On another note the staff grooming has always bothered me as I professionally work in the hospitality industry where female staff is expected to tide up their hair up. Regarding comfort my seat was always retracting after reclining so I had to adjust it every now and then if I wanted to have it reclined . Annoying. The movies from the entertainment system were from 1997 and 1998. The seat comfort at least for me was questionable. I found it too hard to sit on for so long.
Started this 10-hour journey from SFO to HLR looking forward to a great flight with United Airlines which I haven't used for quite some time simply because they often fall short in the face European airlines' competition in quality if service, comfort, and on-board amenities. I carried a backpack and a complaint roller-board. I believe the aircraft was Boeing 777. As getting seated I placed my roller-board in the overhead bin wheels first as I know it is the proper way so other passengers can place their bags, too. At some point a flight attendant came along the isle and tried to close the overhead bin as it was full but she couldn't. She asked around whose bag was the gray one that apparently prevented the bin to close. It was mine. When I replied it was my bag she asked me to fix it, turned around and walked away. Wow, I though to my self. Let me deal with that now. I had to asked around passenger to move and rearrange their bags in a way that I can place my bag sideways. I was not sure why as the bag fit the carry-on dimension by United. I felt very uncomfortable to touch other passenger's belongings. I mean, I am not saying the flight attendant had to do it herself but at least to offer to help. Well, that kinda set the mood for the entire flight for me and reminded me as to why I don't want to have United as my first travel choice again.
I have also noticed that on the particular flight no one came along the isle to check passengers for belts and what not before take off. Service on board started with pretzels and bottled water which reminded me the times years ago when I used to fly United a lot as their loyal customer when they would offer complimentary snack (pretzels) on domestic flights. What was different this time was lack of beverage napkin given with this service. So I thought, here we go again. Not to mention that flight attendant would not even knowledge you when passing the service
I am writing this review in order to thank the flight attendants on flight UA1974 on July 9 MIA - EWR. There were passengers on this flight (including myself), who had connecting transatlantic flights. Since the departure and the arrival were delayed with almost 1.5 hr, when we landed in EWR one of the flight attendants (sorry didn't get her name) asked the passengers, who did not have connecting flights to remain in their seats, in order to let those, who are in a hurry for the next flight, to make it on time. Thanks to this thoughtful request I made it out of the plane very fast, even though my seat was in the back of the plane and I had plenty of time to get to the gate for my flight to TLV. I believe others was able to do it as well. Thank you United!
Let me start with my flight date is NOT correct, but that's what I put since I was required to do so.
My husband travels a LOT with his job. He had enough in his vouchers to pay for 3 tickets (myself and two dtrs). After being on the phone for over an hour, he was finally told he could not use more than 1 voucher per person. So even though he has around $80 left on 2 different vouchers, we had to pay $70.40 out of pocket. Our next flights, which are to Hawaii, we've now scheduled with delta-3 tickets, round trip. My husband even spoke to a supervisor who was VERY rude. I could hear her voice becoming rather loud but not yelling. She told my husband that was the way it was and if he didn't book our 3 flights to DC at that moment we would lose the tickets. All of this all over $70.40. Way to go United. Great policy that you can't use more than one voucher to cover a flight. I hope $70 was worth losing customers. Like I said, husband travels a LOT with work and we go a lot of places with him.
I contacted United. Their response-Hi Robyn, vouchers cannot be combined. You can find the policy stated here: http://bit.ly/1KrgHus . ^CC
I stated-I don't need a policy. It's ridiculous. If I want to split my payment between two CC's you'd take it. You have no issue with that. No problem. Like I said, you've lost 4 customer (my husband, myself, and two dtrs) all over $70.40. We have booked with Delta and are done with your company. Ridiculous that you can't combine your own vouchers.
Their response-We do not accept multiple forms of payment, Robyn. ^CC
Clearly they're not an honest company. Vouchers are considered a form of payment. They took one voucher AND a CC to finish paying the difference. Stay away from dishonest companies. United is the WORST.
